A magnificent piece of surplus from Austria. Issued to officers in the Bundesheer, this beautiful greatcoat is intended for ceremonial winter use. Greatcoats of this style are only issued to those who have climbed the ranks after years of service making them a rarity, especially on the surplus market.
The timeless design is based upon centuries of Austrian and Germanic uniform style and features pebbled silver buttons and a lovely pair of rank tabs on the collar. The coat also has a commanding silhouette, with a full fit. In harsh winds the front lapel can be overturned to provide extra insulation although this heavy coat is sure to keep the cold out with its built in polycotton quilted liner. Furthermore, the rear vent can be buttoned shut too to protect against the elements, although it is certainly much more dramatic left open.
The whole outer wool material is dyed a field grey colour, grey with just a hint of green, making it a lovely neutral winter colour, contrasted nicely by the aforementioned silver buttons and scarlet tabs. All around it is a striking and grand piece, certainly fit for any militaria collector or vintage enthusiast.
