A fantastic jacket with a rich history from a gentleman who was based in West Wales. Having served in the Second World War, he served in active duty over France & Germany late into the war with the Royal Observer Corps, which as the name suggests was an observation branch of the British Forces crucial to providing intelligence and strategy to the allies' offensive. After his service he kept up with army life by transferring to the reserves where he taught in the local Air Cadet's branch, sharing his plethora of knowledge.
The jacket itself is the precursor to the now well known GP bomber jacket. This older 1972 pattern design is cut in a style fitting to the time, with 2 slanted zipper pockets for storage and a front zipper closure. It is made of an all wool material in the beautiful RAF blue colour. The wool of course offering wind and water resistance in the middling to summer months. The jacket is a great piece of history without being exceptionally ornate as the stunning dress jackets usually are, but certainly showcase well a rich life in the field.
