An interesting piece of vintage British government surplus. Issued to Scottish firemen to the North East of the country, greatcoats like this one would've been worn by those just after the war and into the early 1970's. The coat is made of a thick all wool material making it great for wind resistance and warmth in the colder months.
The coat comes with 2 well sized flap pockets on the hips and shoulder epaulettes for fastening straps close to. The silver buttons which contrast against the dark black body are engraved with "ANGUS AREA FIRE BRIGADE" and the region's emblem which make for a subtle but charming addition. The piece makes for a fine addition to any wardrobe or those fascinated by the Fire Services act of 1947 and all of the intriguing results within the British government.
