Beautiful elegant ceremonial dress from the British Army.. This particular jacket from the British army would've been worn by a Lance Corporal on ceremonial duties, or for parade events. No. 1 dress is the highest level of dress uniform most soldiers will wear, and is earned after a good few years in the army, with each part of the uniform being tailor made.
This particular jacket would've belonged to a member of the British army's Royal Military Police, a very small branch of the army, numbering only about 2,000 personnel. Each button on the jacket is embossed with the insignia of the RMP. The previous owner had earned a general service medal as well as a NATO medal for serving during the breakup of Yugoslavia in the 1990's. They had also reached the rank of Lance Corporal, as shown by the nice golden chevron on the right sleeve.
For features, it is quite a simple jacket, made from 100% wool. There's 4 pockets in total, 2 flap and 2 buttonable flap pockets, arranged in the typical "safari" style, with 2 on the hips and 2 on the chest. The collar is mandarin style, being closed with 2 hook & eyes. On the shoulders you'll find shoulder epaullettes, usually designed to secure ribbons and other sashes during ceremonial events. For the colour, it is a very dark navy blue, bordering on black.
Overall great for a collector, especially given the niche branch, or reeenactor, but also for costumes and reworking.
