A beautiful and elegant piece of stunning militaria from Great Britain as worn by members of the Royal Marines for the most prestigious and ceremonial events. No. 1 dress is the highest level of dress uniform most soldiers will wear, and is earned after a good few years in the army, with each part of the uniform being tailor made.
This particular jacket belonged to a member of the elite Royal Marines, a subsection of the Royal Navy which consists of only about 5,000 personnel. Usually these jackets are adorned with staybrite buttons which contrast against the dark navy blue colour, but on this jacket just the "RM" shoulder and Royal Marines' Globe collar badges remain.
For features, it is quite a simple jacket, made from a high quality 100% wool material. There's 4 pockets in total, 2 flap and 2 buttonable flap pockets, arranged in the typical "safari" style, with 2 on the hips and 2 on the chest. The collar is mandarin style, being closed with 2 hook & eye latches. On the shoulders you'll find shoulder epaulettes, usually designed to secure ribbons and other sashes during ceremonial events. Overall it is a fantastic piece of distinguished militaria great for a collector or for costume use.
