After the People's Republic of Bulgaria fell in 1990, the new government took a little while to begin distinguishing itself from the old communist uniform. As such, greatcoats such as this one were reworked and retrofitted with new buttons and patches, plus some snazzy tri colour piping on the shoulders. The design remained true to is Eastern roots, but begun to distinguish itself little by little.

The coat is made of a good heavy weight wool. Not quite as the single breasted "shinel" greatcoats, but given these were intended for ceremonial duties, such a thick material wasn't so crucial. It is however worth noting, it is a great autumn and winter coat, certainly if you appreciate more character.
