A small but essential part of vintage East German surplus. Although the design is simple, these collar inserts were used by all sections of the army when wearing service dress, from out in the field, to ceremonies and parades. The "Kragenbinde" or "Podvorotnichok" is a classic staple of Soviet design. It's unique to the East side of the iron curtain, and was designed to prevent chaffing on a soldier's neck as well as provide longevity.
