Retro surplus, although still in current issue today! These elusive jackets are used by a select few in the German army, who are members of the "Gebirgsjägerbrigade 23 Bayern" or rather, the 23rd Mountaineer's Brigade. These are service uniforms, used for parades, roll calls, inspections and the like.
The Gebirgsjäger have roots going all the way back technically to Austria-Hungary, although saw more prominence in World War 2. Since then with all the restructuring of the German army, it's been through a couple of redesigns but this style of jacket has stuck around for a good few decades.
The design is pretty unique, being the only German brigade to use an Ike jacket. It's usually adorned with patches across the sleeves and collar, as well as shoulder boards, although sadly these have been removed. However, this does open the jacket up to lots of reworking possibilities.
For features, it has an interesting front fastening, buttons up until the bottom, where it swaps to a button and 2 popper studs, for a snug fit. The chest has 2 button pockets for your smaller items and internally a slit pocket on either side for your wallet, papers etc. To the side you'll find string side adjusters, which can be tightened for a tailored waist.
