A beautifully vibrant and bold piece of vintage surplus from Italy. This Mediterranean gear was standard issue for the Italians throughout much of the Cold War, seeing use many times with the Italian Army's peacekeeping missions through NATO and the UN. It was a design well liked by the Italians and saw use for several decades up until the Italians decided to copy the American M81 camouflage pattern around in the 1990's. Then it became simplified and upgraded to newer modern materials.
These particular trousers would've belonged to a member of the Italian Paratrooper airborne brigades, such as the Folgore Brigade, the most renowned. Features were well planned out and handy touches like button adjusters on the waistband for a snugger or looser fit played crucial roles when in the field. There's also reinforcement on the kneepads and options to adjust the cuffs if desired. Of course there is also 2 large cargo pockets for plenty of storage options in addition to a slit on either side of the trousers to access the trousers worn below these overalls.
The camouflage across these dungarees is the beautiful M1929 / M50 Telo Mimetico camouflage. A unique, distinctive colourway that really shows off the early days of camouflage design. back when each country was known for its own individual pattern! With its reddish brown, yellow mustard and vibrant greens, it was fantastic for the Italian peninsula, blending in wonderfully with the surrounding area. It has become scarce and can easily be confused with the San Marco pattern.
Internally there's a stamp which reads "169 3 98 166".
