Exceptionally durable vintage surplus coming from 1970's South Africa. The 70 Pattern rig saw use throughout the South African Defence Forces and also some of their police forces. The webbing system was designed for versatility and adaptability, reflecting the diverse operational requirements of the time. While only being issued for a decade or so, it has become an integral part of South Africa's military history.
The rig's origins come from a prototype off of a SADF 61/64 webbing set, which in turn had taken inspiration from British 58 rigs, which had been modified by a gentleman to suit his own needs. He joined the SADF in 1966, where after training, he joined the 1st Parachute Battalion, where his custom rig was spotted. He then went onto work with I.B. Joffe to develop it into the fully fledged 70 Pattern rig which we know today.
It comes with a great deal of pouches, all of which could be swapped out and adjusted to the users liking. You have a large main rucksack, 2 kidney pouches as well as an ammo pouch, all of which can be fastened shut. These were designed for a range of environments, from long excursions in the bush, to general manoeuvres. You've also got a bayonet frog, handy for storing whatever knife you may have. It is made from one of the toughest canvas materials I've ever stocked, all in an olive tan colour. Whether you want one for your own adventures or simply as a collector's piece, this is a fantastic piece of surplus that is seldom seen on the market.
