Grades -

• Grade 1.5 - Great condition for an item this old, but certainly with some signs of prior use. Small mark on the front and signs of wear on the collar. Would benefit from a dry clean, but is still beautiful as is. Buttons are quite good for the most part.

About This Piece
Vintage Swedish Air Force surplus, made in 1962. The M60 service coat was issued from the 1960s through to the 1980s, when the pure wool cloth gave way to a synthetic blend. The three crowns on the buttons are Tre Kronor, the national emblem of Sweden.

The Swedish Air Force, the Flygvapnet, became an independent service in 1926, bringing together the flying units of the Army and Navy, and the coat's style still echoes those early uniforms. Sweden stayed neutral through the Second World War, but its air force kept watch over Swedish airspace. In the Cold War that watch moved to the Baltic, where Swedish aircraft regularly came up against Soviet reconnaissance planes, and coats like this one were standard issue throughout.

The Lambrino Take
Heavy duty and hard wearing, this is a proper winter coat with a wonderfully elegant, timeless look. Fitting for the Air Force, given how airmen have always taken a more peacockish approach than the land branches. The dense all wool cloth and satin lining keep the wind and wet out, while the gold collar badges and three crown buttons stand out beautifully against the dark teal blue. These coats were made by a number of regional tailoring houses supplying the armed forces, and this one carries the CBV maker's label. A stunning, smart coat for the colder months.
