Beautiful surplus from the midst of the Cold War. A dress jacket such as this one would've been by those who had passed a lengthy training period and acted as a day to day office or patrol booth uniform, alongside more prestigious occasions like state visits and the like. It takes quite a formal approach, but is certainly timeless in its design. The "Bundesgrenzschutz" or abbreviated to the BGS, was West Germany's border force during the cold war and as such has a rich history, especially along the border with East Germany.
The jacket is made of a durable wool material and is lined with sateen. There are plenty of pockets throughout, needed for the plethora of paperwork and police equipment used by the BGS. Externally there are 4 button pockets with a further 5 inside, 1 of which joins into the external bottom right pocket by design.
This particular jacket belonged to a gentlemen who had reached the rank of "Wactmeister im BGS" a fairly low level rank but still an achievement which added a bit of colour to your rank boards. If you are looking to own a beautiful piece of cold war militaria, with history to match a piece from the Bundesgrenzschutz is an excellent choice.
